August 2020 ~ LOOK DEEPER

In June of 2016, Tim McGraw earned a No. 1 hit with his single “Humble and Kind.”  Penned by Lori McKenna as a letter to her five children, she said “it was just a list of things that we wanted to make sure she told them.  Children don’t always listen to the things that we say to them.”  She hoped this message in rhyme form would be engrained into their hearts and minds.

This 2017 Grammy Award winning Best Country Song easily transitions into the Christian community. It is a reminder, especially in these uncertain times, to be kind and considerate to each other.  It’s a challenge to everybody who hears it, no matter which side of which issue they might find themselves on, to live up to our best selves.

Don’t expect a free ride from no one
Don’t hold a grudge or a chip and here’s why
Bitterness keeps you from flying
Always stay humble and kind

Hold the door, say please, say thank you
Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie
I know you got mountains to climb but
Always stay humble and kind
When those dreams you’re dreaming come to you
When the work you put in is realized
Let yourself feel the pride but
Always stay humble and kind

So, spend time listening to others, be grateful for what you have, ask for help when you need it, take leaps of faith, be present and …

ALWAYS stay humble and kind.
